Backgrounds, Everywhere.

Before we started on the animation, we had to create the finished backgrounds or layouts for every scene. Due to the incredible task of this however, we had to have several people working on the same layout by either being responsible for the line art or the coloring.

Also because of our limited time with this project the layout crew had to pull other crew members that weren't originally supposed to help with layouts in order to meet the deadline.

What Style were we going for?

Screencaps from Jibaku Shounen Hanako-kun (Toilet-bound Hanako-kun)

One of the biggest inspirations for the layouts was in the form of the anime "Toliet-Bound Hanako-kun". The anime finished airing around the time of the start of production. Its stylized backgrounds, choice of colors along with its sharp shadows and highlights are what drove us to choose this show for reference.

During the process, we referenced how the backgrounds from the anime were handled and applied that style to our layouts by copying the color palettes of different scenes from the show.

3D Models of the train cart and bathroom were modeled to expedite the process of making layouts. Was it tedious? Yes. Was it worth it? Definitely. Work smart and for the benefit of everyone.

Contrary to popular belief,  Jacob "Maya Master" Keating did not model the 3D models; 3D modeling was done by Louise and Amber.
